PLANET Confidential is committed to encouraging hotels and pubs to cater for canines. Most recently we’ve featured Dog-Friendly London, Eco Retreats for your canine sidekick and a pooch pad named as Britain’s Best B&B. Quite understandably the latter, Millbank House in Richmond, North Yorkshire, features in the just published second edition of Alastair Sawday’s Dog-Friendly Breaks In Britain (£14.99) – along with 227 other entries.
The foreword is by dog-adoring TV presenter Kate Humble (above), who praises the high quality of all the featured hotels, B&Bs and self-catering properties. Planet likes the little luxuries outlined along the way: “Relax with a chewy pig’s ear in front of the fire” (a Devon B&B); “Space for one dog with good sea legs, towels provided and hair-dryer for those enjoying a dip in the canal” (Edinburgh canal boat); or “Dogs are left far from forgotten with hand-crafted bacon fat biscuit and gravy treats. Salivating already? (spectacular Cornwall self-catering).
All the comments are aimed solely at your pet, by the way. Of course, anthromorphism can get out of hand. Witness (from East London): ”The resident whippet is on hand for advice on walks, places to eat and to share his treats.”
Despite such tweeness, the guide lives up to the high independent standards you expect from the Sawday stable of guide books. Visit this link to find out more.
