MANCHESTER Airport has been been named as the Best UK Airport at the Travel Weekly Globe Awards, beating Heathrow and Gatwick to the prize.
The awards, which are voted for by travel agents across the UK, were held at Grosvenor House hotel in London.
Andrew Harrison, chief operating officer at Manchester Airports Group (MAG), said: “We continue to invest in improving the airport experience for our passengers and despite the difficult economic situation, continue to deliver services to new destinations and additional capacity on existing routes providing increased choice and flexibility for travellers in the North of England.”
It is the fourth time that Manchester Airport has received the award.

The fact Manchester Airport wins awards for best Uk Airport,is more reflection on how bad all the London Airports are, especially Heathrow, rather than saying much about the performance of Manchester Airport.
The airport is a mess.It is cold, unwelcoming and under staffed.Compared to other international airports the terminal buildings are ugly and cramped. The toilets are grim and there is no fee wifi. The terminals are freezing cold at night in winter as well.Contrast that with Helsinki Airport which is warm and welcoming and has unlimited free wifi.
In the last few years it has attracted the budget airlines, but that only exposes the folly of the management,in ignoring them for years previously.Leading to the significant loss of passengers and business to Liverpool Airport.
In fact since the building of the second runway supposedly to cope with increased demand, the airport has fallen behind not just Gatwick, but also Stansted in passenger numbers. This has coincided with the utterly flawed policy of taking over the management of other small UK airports.
