Northern Lights

 A once-in-a-lifetime experience

Seeing the Aurora Bourealis in person is a once-in-a-lifetime experience and Iceland is one of the best places in the world to see them. From September through to the end of March, you can hunt for the Northern Lights near Reykjavik while enjoying one of the coolest city breaks imaginable.

The recent solar activity in August has led to sightings earlier than normal and scientists are predicting that this year activity levels will be very high, making for good sighting conditions.

So how does a Northern Lights hunt work? Every night in Iceland, a group gathers in Reykjavik for a coach trip into the countryside led by a Northern Lights specialist. The tour heads to a different destination depending on where the lights are most likely to be seen. The group spends the next two to four hours searching for the lights and once they are found, they are guaranteed to put on a spectacular show.

When you're not searching for the lights you can enjoy Iceland's beautiful natural features including waterfalls, black sand beaches, lava fields, glaciers and more. And don't forget to experience Reykjavik's legendary nightlife followed by a relaxing day at the Blue Lagoon.
